RadKing Radiant Heat Installation Checklist

Before installation:

  • Ensure ceiling access below heated area is open

  • Confirm manifold locations (closets, basement, or slab-mounted)

  • Verify power source location for low-voltage thermostats and actuators

  • Review floor and wall layout for tubing drop points

During installation:

  • Keep first-floor or basement ceiling open until PEX runs are complete

  • Confirm tubing loops match the room zoning plan

  • Coordinate with electrician for low-voltage wiring rough-in (if needed)

  • Maintain dry, clean environment for panel installation

After installation:

  • System pressurized and air-tested before floor covering

  • Access panels installed over manifold locations

  • Electrical wiring complete for thermostats, wall sensors, and actuators

  • System labeled and ready for boiler connection

Manifold Placement Guidelines:

  • Centrally located manifolds = shortest runs, less heat loss, and better efficiency

  • Avoid locating manifolds behind finished materials without access panels

  • Second-floor manifolds → usually in closets

  • First-floor manifolds → typically in basements

  • Slab installs → run tubing topside or vertically to wall-mounted manifolds

What to Expect During Your RadKing Installation

Installing radiant heat happens in stages and we’ll walk you through each one. Here’s a quick guide to help you know what to expect depending on your home type:

  • Second Floor:
The manifold (the main connection point for your radiant heat) is usually in a closet.
We’ll need the ceiling below open while we run the tubing, then your contractor can close it up once the system is tested.

  • First Floor with Basement:
The manifold is typically in your basement.
We’ll need access to the basement ceiling to install and connect the tubing before it’s closed off.

  • Homes on Slab:
We’ll install the radiant system right on top of the floor structure and run the tubing up the wall into the manifold. This layout keeps the system efficient and discreet.

Once everything’s connected, we pressurize the system with air until the final flooring is installed.
And don’t worry manifolds are always hidden behind clean access panels, not exposed in closets. You’ll never have to move clothes or linens to reach them.
After setup and testing, access is only needed for maintenance, which is required.
